Thor and the Red Goose Gardens (RGG) team grow vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs (using organic principles) and market directly to households and businesses in the Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks and other areas. Families and individuals can access these products through membership in RGG's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.

The tangible benefits of CSA membership include getting a supply of local, naturally grown fruits & veggies delivered to you over the season. Throughout the 17-20 week season, a box arrives at a site near you containing produce items harvested fresh from the gardens. Along with the produce we send out a newsletter that conveys general farm news and recipes/ideas for using the produce.

By becoming a member of Red Goose Gardens, you…
1) Get quality produce that:
• Is picked at its peak of ripeness for maximum flavor and nutrition.
• Includes heirloom varieties and interesting items not locally available.
• Is grown in accordance with National Organic Program standards.
2) Know you're supporting a local farm that:
• Keeps money and jobs in the local economy.
• Reduces waste and pollution from non-local foods’ long-distance transport.
3) Foster agricultural practices that:
• Allow biodiversity to thrive – the 40-acre farm plays host to a wide spectrum of wildlife.
• Significantly reduce the use of harmful chemicals and dependence on foreign oil.

Examples of box contents can include…
*in late June: lettuce heads, baby greens, radishes, baby beets, broccoli, chard, spinach, rhubarb, strawberries, herbs
*in late July: snap beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chard, cucumbers, early eggplant, fennel, leeks, baby and head lettuce, okra, onions, snap, snow and shelling peas, early peppers, raspberries, summer squash, early tomatoes, basil and other herbs,

Here's what folks had to say
*"We have been so SATISFIED with our wonderful garden fresh foods. Both our daughter and us are so happy we became members in RGG." [Bob and Virginia L.]
*"We sure are enjoying the fine produce! Sign us up for next year." [Faith and Gary S.]
*"We just want to say thank you for the wonderful produce we have gotten from you so far. It is what food should taste like. You are obviously working very hard and we wanted to tell you how grateful we are." [Jeanne B. and Barrie M.]
*"Thank you so much for a productive season. We are definitely healthier for eating your fresh organic produce and look forward to another year." [Kay A.]

Signing up is easy
We are planning for 150 to 175 members in 2009; there are still shares available if you act soon. To join RGG this season, please send the information below to Thor (at redgoosegardens@yahoo.com; Red Goose Gardens, PO Box 157, Shelly, MN 56581; or by phone at 218.886.6281).
- Contact info: your name(s), your mailing and email addresses, phone number(s)
- Share of choice: Regular or Large; drop site pick-up or home delivery

Share prices for new members in 2009:
- Large share (1-1/9 bushel box, topping out at 25+lbs, good for 3+ person family) is $600 ($700 home delivery).
- Regular share (5/9 bushel box, half the Family size, good for 1-3 people) - $360 ($460 home delivery).

Which size you should get depends on your diet. Think about the composition of your diet before deciding. Some couples who are vegetarians/vegans can handle the Large size, yet some families are happy with the Regular size. Many members find themselves sharing with friends during the season. Consider who you might share with if you have or want to.

The sooner I hear from you the better your chances are for getting in on the tasty action! New members can secure shares by sending a deposit of $100 made payable to the name and address above (the balance is due by July 1); send the check or money order along with the your contact info and share size.

You also have the option to exchange part or all of the share cost for your labor on the farm. Whether or not you want to help with chores, I encourage members, their families and friends to visit the farm.
I also recruit 4-5 paid interns each season; if you know able bodied persons who might like to learn about sustainable produce farming, please tell them about RGG.

Thanks for reading!
