Prairie Biomass Harvest Field Day – Windom, MN
Each of the field dates will focus on harvesting prairie species and how harvesting will affect water quality, soil quality, wildlife habitat, and other ecosystem services. Each site will begin with an informational presentation on the research and projects being done as well as time for open discussion of the benefits and tribulations of native prairie production and harvest. The
discussion will be followed by a brief tour of the harvest sites and/or grass acres. Please dress accordingly for the outdoor tour. The field days are brought to you by the following partners: University of Minnesota, Rural Advantage, South Dakota State University, EcoSun Prairie Farms, Minnesota Native Landscapes, University of Minnesota Extension, The Nature Conservancy, Pheasants Forever, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture though a Conservation Innovation Grant.

2009 Superior Grown Food Summit
The Superior Grown Food Summit seeks to convene a public conversation with farmers and eaters about our regional food system. The cost is $10.00 per person, which includes a local food lunch (scholarships available). Conference information and registration materials will be posted soon at www.superiorgrown.com. In order to make this Summit successful in channeling new ideas and policies for food localization, we need SFA member input and participation. Send us suggestions regarding who should be invited. Legislative Panel on Green Jobs - Brainerd Area Environmental Learning Network (BAELN)
This season of the Brainerd Area Environmental Learning Network (BAELN)’s theme “Greening the Economy” gives us insight into the jobs, skills and opportunities that the “green jobs” direction offers. Along with monthly speakers and networking, there will be a tour focusing on green business practices, a panel on greening the workforce, facilitated discussion on poverty and
green jobs, and green job examples. The events are free and all are invited to participate. BAELN, now in its seventh season, offers people in the environmental field and the community, the chance to receive timely information on environmental and sustainability issues, along with the chance to network with others. BAELN events are held most third Thursdays of the month from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and include an hour-long presentation with time for questions, networking and refreshments.
